5 INSPIRING READS

Post by Melissa Mayo

I just wanted to remind you that you are incredible. I also need to stress that the dreams you desire and the goals you have for your life are not silly, stupid fantasies.

If you are chasing after you ideal reality by working hard, following your passion and paving your own way, you probably encounter many people who laugh at your ridiculous ideals. Some may tell you that you have changed.

Damn straight you have. Woohoooo. You have stopped settling for the mundane, ordinary and boring life you were told you deserved. You’ve worked hard to break through the dogma. So don’t listen to them. Keep moving forward.

Over the years I have witnessed some friendships fall away. Not because they were bad for me, but because I felt stagnant in them. I can have a conversation a few times about the same topic, but I prefer to be with people that motivate and inspire me to grow beyond my capabilities and that challenge my way of thinking. I want to be pushed beyond my limits.

Research shows that a person is defined by the five people they hang out with. And it’s not always easy to find your crew. Some of my friends are content to hop from coffee to a manicure. They enjoy heading up committees that have meetings about meetings. But this is not me. I have a burning fire inside me that won’t go out. I need to create stuff.

I was watching an interview with the amazing Carrol Boyes, and she was asked who her mentor was. She replied by saying it was the person who’s book she was reading and her mentor changed constantly. I like Carrol, am a voracious reader and demolish about 6 books a month. I love to hang out in the minds of authors that fuel me, instead of gossiping and whining about why my life sucks.

So I thought I would remind you that you have a choice. And if you cannot find like-minded humans, then check out 5 of my favorite books/audio books.

1. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

2. The Power of Intention by Dr Wayne Dyer

3. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

5. You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Let me know if you enjoy them and I will add some more.

Questions, comments, brilliant suggestions? Don’t hesitate to reach out anytime. I love hearing from you xxx MM
